PROJECT SNAPSHOT
Infracon Construction Inc. (Infracon) was contracted by Chandos to complete the civil earthworks, underground utilities, and paving for the Saulteau First Nations Wastewater System IPD Project. The project consists of clearing and grubbing the new lagoon area, installation of deep sewer pipe to depths of 6+ meters below grade, and all associated services and other utilities. This is a challenging project due to the deep excavations that were performed in winter conditions, the sandy ground conditions encountered, and the low grade of the mainline pipe (0.4%). Infracon mitigated these challenges by utilizing a D8 dozer to rip frost, pre-benching the trench area and utilizing shoring to reduce sloughing of the sand into the trenches. Infracon is currently 90% complete the mainline sanitary pipe and will be completing the roadworks, services and lagoon infrastructure in 2025. The crew from this project will make up most of the crew for the City of Terrace Sewage Treatment Plant Pipe Upgrade project team.
