Minex was contracted by Wastech Services Inc. on a 5-year term to operate the Campbell Hill Landfill and perform civil scopes to expand the landfill’s capacity. Minex’s contract has expanded to $25M to include civil scopes including berm construction, liner placement preparation and support, ditching, access road construction and maintenance. Minex simultaneously runs the daily operations of the landfill which includes receiving waste; including asbestos material, operating the tipper, and the excavation and hauling of daily cover to place over compacted landfill waste. Minex works carefully to receive and process waste in a manner that minimizes environmental impacts. Environmental responsibilities are met by mitigating several environmental hazards including explosions/fires, release of landfill gases, release of contaminated fluids, surface subsidence from shifting refuse and exposure to prohibited waste, asbestos waste, landfill leachate and vector/rodent control. Significant challenges overcome on this project include excavating very hard glacial till material that regularly required ripping in addition to various groundwater issues impacting excavations.
